Programme Aims

The MSc in Management (Information Systems) variant incorporates the core elements of the MSc in Management whilst developing skills which will enable non-specialist graduates to enter employment at managerial level in organisations with a significant information technology base.  The main elements of this will be:

  • a study of a range of managerial issues that underpin the management of information systems;
  • examining the uses of different types of information and information systems in the business context;
  • exploring the interrelationships between aspects of business and IS, such as change, organisational culture and structure;
  • investigating the range of established strategic analysis and planning tools, and how they can be applied;
  • developing generic skills relevant to management, e.g. report writing, presentation, problem solving and group working skills.

The Programme Structure

This programme begins in mid-September each year and consists of two elements - the 2 semester taught programme and a 3 month dissertation project.  Teaching involves a mixture of lectures, seminars, workshops and practical case studies and students are assessed by a combination of coursework and examination.

Successful completion of the taught element of the programme leads to the award of the Diploma or allows the student to continue for the award of the MSc in Management (Information Systems) by completing a dissertation on a topic agreed with the Programme Director.  This must be submitted by the end of August following completion of the taught programme.
