Programme Aims

To provide recent graduates with a conceptual foundation for a career in the field of human resource management, or for further academic study in the subject.

To help update the knowledge and qualifications of Personnel/HR practitioners, trade unionists and those teaching in the subject area.

To provide a critical and academic assessment of the HRM approach and its application by employers.

To allow practitioners to gain a wider perspective on the principal issues and concerns affecting work and provide the basis for more effective decisions.

The Programme Structure

The programme begins in mid-September each year and can be taken full-time over 12 months, or part-time over 30 months. Teaching involves a mixture of lectures, seminars, case studies and presentations, and students are assessed by both coursework and examination.

Part-time students take 4 courses per semester, with first year students normally attending classes on Wednesdays from 1400-1800 hours, and second years normally attending on Mondays at the same times.

Successful completion of the taught element of the programme leads to the award of the Diploma or allows the student to continue for the award of the MSc in HRM by completing a dissertation on a topic agreed with the programme Director. Full-time students must submit a dissertation by the end of August following completion of the taught programme, part-time students, by the end of November.
